THE IMPOSSIBLE
The Impossible (Spanish: Lo Imposible) is a 2012 English-language Spanish disaster drama film directed by J. A. Bayona and written by Sergio G. Sánchez. It is based on the experience of María Belón and her family in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The cast includes Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland.
The film received positive reviews from critics for its direction and its acting, especially for Watts who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. What I liked about the film is the frame by frame intricate depiction of the agony the family goes through while being separated by the disaster. Naomi Watts’ acting deserves a standing ovation and it's only befitting that she had been nominated for an award for her exemplary performance, perfecting it to a T. Tom Holland, who plays Lucas, the eldest son, is someone we all look out for, mostly because of his intense presence on-screen.
The film has been awarded with strings of recognitions; The Goya Award for Best Direction, Best Production Supervision, Best Special Effects and Best Editing, all in 2013.
I watched this on television only a couple of days back but I think that the film has still retained the freshness of one which is newly made, making sure we sit on the edge of our seats, with heart thumping wildly and tears streaming down our cheeks, at times.
A movie par excellence and I award it a 5/5!
